Farewell Letters

Class of 2016, you are my special class. You and I entered together in 2012, and my own son is a part of this dynamic class group. Looking back, I remember a number of you as freshmen. We were both new to Page High School, you as a student and me as the principal. You often shared how terrified you were of such a “large school.” What you didn’t know is, I was too. However, four years later we are here and have become a family in a school that feels like home. Class of 2016, you have provided significant and special memories for me.  You are made up of students who have a strong passion to make a positive difference in our world. You are service oriented and determined to make your mark on the paths you cross. As you leave the halls of Page to begin your adult journey, know you have made a tremendous impact of the lives you have touched. As you maneuver through your new voyage, keep in mind that there will be highs and lows, but how you address them will decide the outcome and your success. If you remember that you are a PAGE PIRATE and have been well prepared for whatever this thing called “life” throws your way, you will be fine.  Enjoy this moment, Class of 2016. I believe you are made up of future state and country leaders, lawyers, scientist, doctors, teachers, sport stars, and a host of other careers that will make our world a better place. Lastly, when you do go and make it big, remember Page High School.

To my Fellow Members Class of 2016,

Emotions. When you reflect on our time at Page, it's hard to not be overwhelmed with emotions. Once we entered through those red double doors freshman year, we became part of a family: a family of red and white. A family who gets swept together, eats for 25 minutes, obtains exemplary academics, and still has time trounce over the annoying Whirlie family across town, extending the dominance for another year, even when at home. A family who grows together as a team and makes it to States in Football, Basketball, Golf, Swimming, and Tennis. A family with tremendously talented musicians, artists, actors and actresses, athletes, and ROTC cadets. A family who survives being without power for the day and accidental fires.

Unfortunately, a family also goes through hard times, testing the fortitude of the individuals and the relationships that have been created. When Pirates fall, others are always there in numbers, aiding wherever they can to get them up on their feet. With much respect to Aniya's Angels and Hailey’s Army, just to name a few, and to give credit for their conscientious time and effort, when life tests the tides and waters at Page, time and time again students, teachers, and staff demonstrate that the Pirate ship will continue to sail and will keep the flag flying high.

Reflecting on what this class has accomplished and looking ahead to the future, it is with much assurance that after four years of walking through the crowded halls and learning among exceptional classmates from phenomenal teachers that much more awaits us in the future. Page is  one of the most challenging school in North Carolina for a reason; our accolades represent our hard work. Let us cherish the memories that we have made together and I want to thank you, Page Seniors, for making my high school career one for the books...filled with laughter, joy, sweat, and tears. Remember to learn from mistakes and live life achieving greatness.

With immense gratitude and Page Pride,

Michael Sosa

Senior Class President

Dear Class of 2016,

There is something about this class that has something special to it. The sense of community we all have as a whole is something you don’t come across everyday, especially from a bunch of teenagers. I have grown a lot over the past four years here at Page and with that growth I have learned a number of things- the most important of them all are to keep your friends close. We are going to face a lot in the future wherever we go, but I believe this class will continue to stay a close knit group. We have faced multiple obstacles throughout our high school years, but it has only made us grow closer and stronger.  Keep each and every Pirate in your heart because they will always be there… we are a family! We have finally made it to the most anticipated time in our lives, but we can’t wish it away; soak it all in and live in the moment. We only get this opportunity once and we all need to make the most of it!! Best of luck to all of you in your future endeavors and GO PIRATES!!

Best Wishes,

Anna Grace Betts
